International Javelin thrower, represented GB Seniors in Zurich, Switzerland
Graeme Ballard
is a Paralympian athlete with Cerebal Palsy. Graeme competed in the 2004 Athens games at 200m winning silver and London 2012 at 100m gaining bronze.
Denise Bolton - 100m Hurdles
Represented GB at 100m hurdles against France, Italy and Spain in Nembro, Italy
Emily Borthwick
is our club record holder at High Jump and competed in the 2020 (held in 2021 due to Covid) Tokyo Olympics. Emily also reached the final of the European Indoor High Jump held at Turun, Poland in 2021. A life long club member having started in our Primary section.
Jeff Clare
is a GB and England international discus thrower and holds a number of our Shot and Discus records. Jeff was also a successful Rugby League player for Wigan and Salford.

Colette is the Deaf British Record Holder in Javelin 39m25 as well as being a European Silver Medalist

International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports (IWAS) 2 x World Junior Champion Shot Put (2014 & 2015), runner up discus (2014), bronze discus (2015).
David Grindley - 400m
is a British former 400 metres track and field athlete who reached the final of the men's individual 400 metres (where he placed sixth) and won bronze in the men's 4 x 400 metres relay in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
His personal best for the 400 metres is 44.47 seconds and is the fastest time by a British teenager.
Kevin Hill
Represented GB under 21's at javelin in separate competitions against France and Germany. Set UK ag records for 15 & 16 year old with the 800gm Javelin. Holds most of our club Javelin records.
Gillian Hitchen
Gillian Hitchen (now Cadman) was a National Champion after winning the 1978 UK Athletics Championships title in the high jump.
She represented England in the high jump, at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Kirsty Hunter - Sprinter
Kirsty was the World Youth Games Champion in 2000 at the 100m. The games, organised by the International Blind Sporting Association. Kirsty was trained by Wigan sprint coach Don Moss, and in the long jump by International coach Peter Warden.
Gloria Hooper
is a seven times Italian champion over 100m & 200m, representing Italy at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics at 200m. Gloria was part of the Italian team that won bronze at the European Championships in 2022 (Munich) and Silver at the 2018 Mediterranean Games
Susan Jones - High Jump
Susan Jones (now Moncrieff) is the former British Record holder in the High Jump. Her personal best of 1.95m saw her top the rankings for years, as well as picking up a commonwealth silver medal.
Hayley Jones - Sprinter
Hayley Jones (now Mills) a Great Britain representative who won Bronze as part of the women's 4 x 100m relay at the world championships. Hayley also shone as a junior in the sprints taking European titles in the 200m as well as the 4 x 100m in 2007.
Rachael Kay - 400 Hurdles
Represented GB in the at U20 in the European Championships in Riga, Latvia and the World U20 Championships in Annecy, France

Represented GB over 800m at the European Junior Championship, 2023.
Harris Koutras
Represented Cyprus at 110m hurdles.
Bethan Lishman
is a deaf thrower. Beth competed and captained GB in the Deaflypmics in Taipei 2009, discus and hammer, Sofia 2013, hammer and Samson 2017, hammer. Beth coaches gymnastics in her home town of Cockermouth.

Jenny needs no introduction a multi medal winning international athlete. We are very proud to have such a talented athlete in our ranks, especially as she came to us aged seven and three quarters and has forged a magnificent career all under the Wigan Harriers banner.

Represented GB in an International Combined Events meeting in Tuscaloosa, USA, Kiev Ukraine and Altdorf, Switzerland and at High Jump also in Altdoorf, Switzerland

Tara Simpson -Sullivan - Hammer
Represented GB in the U23 European Championships in Tallin, Estonia finishing 5th
Phylis Smith - Sprinter
Phylis Smith (now Watt, born 29 September 1965) is a female former sprinter from Great Britain who won an Olympic bronze medal in the 4 x 400 metres relay in Barcelona 1992. In 1994, she won a European Championships bronze medal in the 400 metres.
Dani Stevens (nee Samuels),
is a retired Australian discus thrower, coached by a former Wigan AC Athlete (Hayden Knowles) Dani won the World Championships in 2009, Berlin and gained silver in 2017, London. Dani used Wigan as a base during a number of the European Summer Seasons.

Sharon Walls
Great Britain hurdler Sharon Walls was an U23 international. Unfortunately injury cut Sharon's competitive career short. But thankfully her talent in the sport did not do to waste. Sharon went into coaching, learnt new events and coached an English Schools Champion, National Champion and Great Britain International.
Craig Winrow -800m
Craig represented Great Britain at the 1996 Summer Olympics reaching the semifinals. He represented England in the 800 metres event, at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
His personal bests in the event are 1:45.23 outdoors (Rome 1996) and 1:47.78 indoors (Glasgow 1994). He also won World and European medals as a junior
