This weekend marked the end of our exciting first season back in the Mid Lancs Track & Field League with the Medal Meeting. It has been an incredible season for both our men's and women's teams.
The women's team dominated Division 2, winning by an impressive 412 points and securing their promotion to Division 1. Meanwhile, the men's team put up a strong performance, finishing second in Division 2, just 6 points shy of first place, and also earning a promotion to Division 1.
There was plenty of individual success this weekend, with notable performances across various age groups.
Senior Women:
Rebekah Hopper finished 1st in the triple jump and took 2nd place in both the shot put and discus.
Under 17 Women:
Yas Baker placed 1st in the shot put and discus and achieved a personal best to come 3rd in the javelin. Nour Kholeif earned 1st in the triple jump and came 3rd in the 3000m and 800m. Katie Bonner secured 1st place in the 3000m, while Esme Harris finished 4th in the 800m.
Under 15 Girls:
Ava Wareing earned 2nd place in the javelin with a personal best, finished 3rd in the hammer, and achieved another personal best for 4th place in the discus.
Under 13 Girls:
Katie-Louise Malley finished 1st in the 1500m and also participated in the high jump and long jump.
Senior Men:
Jeff Darbyshire took 2nd place in the long jump and also competed in the 100m and 200m. Ian McPhail finished 2nd in the shot put, javelin, and discus.
Under 17 Men:
Sami Manir-Jolley came 2nd in the 1500m.
Under 15 Boys:
Isaac Wright had a strong showing, winning both the shot put, with a personal best, and the discus. William Ashcroft came 1st in the 800m, while Alexander Glenn took 2nd place in the 800m and competed well in the 200m and high jump. Sam Hodgkinson finished 2nd in the high jump and set a personal best in the javelin.
Several athletes also competed in events outside of the medal competition, gaining valuable experience.
Non-Medal Competition:
Owen Baron participated in the 100m and 200m sprints. Halle Walsh took part in the triple jump, 100m, and long jump. Olivia Berry competed in the 100m and 200m.
These results highlight the dedication of our athletes and mark a successful season for the club. It’s been great to see so many competitors of all ages representing Wigan Harriers. Hopefully we can look forward to building on this first season and aiming for more success in the years ahead.
